NEW YORK (AP) — Spina, an 11-1 shot, led all the way Thursday in winning the $47,000 allowance feature at Aqueduct by 112 lengths.
Jorge Chavez was aboard the 4-year-old, who won for the third time in 28 races. Trained by Mitchell Friedman, Spina ran the six furlongs in 1:12.06 on a fast track. Bells of Concerto was second in the race for fillies and mares.
Spina paid $25.80, $8.70 and $3.50. Bells of Concerto returned $4.60 and $2.60. Star Orchid, the 4-5 favorite, showed at $2.20.
