SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — A vicious snowstorm knocked out power for more than 6,000 customers in the Spokane area as heavy snow and winds were snapping tree limbs and power lines.
The Mount Spokane ski area lost power about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, and crews were able to repair a downed line by 2 p.m. The ski lifts have backup generators.
Nearly 3,000 customers lost power for a time on the West Plains near Spokane’s airport, where up to 7 inches of snow fell Wednesday. More than 3,000 customers lost power on Spokane’s South Hill neighborhoods.
The power outages occurred as temperatures were falling into the 20s later in the day, with wind gusts of 26 mph in Spokane.
