Vancouver firefighters responded at about 2 a.m. Monday to a fire at Karey’s Kreative Interiors, 8900 block of Northeast St. Johns Road.

The structure shared by the home decorator and The Barbershop, 8916 N.E. St. Johns Road, sustained about $50,000 damage, according to Jim Flaherty, a fire department spokesman.

A nearby Clark County sheriff’s deputy reached the scene first, reporting flames in the back of the building.

Flaherty said the fire entered through vents near the roof.

Firefighters knocked down the blaze on the outside before entering and extinguishing flames inside the building. The fire was under control about 15 minutes after crews reached the structure, Flaherty said. Karey’s sustained the bulk of the damage.

The swift response limited the damage at the three-chair barber shop.

The cause of the blaze remains unclear, fire officials said Monday evening.
