LAS VEGAS (AP) — The World Series of Poker main event looks on pace for more entries and prize money than last year after tournament officials avoided having some players begin during the Fourth of July holiday.
But it’s unclear whether the higher numbers will hold with two of four starting days remaining.
World Series of Poker spokesman Seth Palansky says officials don’t have enough information to determine whether the main event will fall short or surpass last year’s $61 million prize pool.
At least 1,300 people started the no-limit Texas Hold ’em tournament on Tuesday, packed 10 to a table at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino.
Series officials are still accepting registrations for the $10,000 buy-in tournament until players start their fifth hour of play.
