Motorists on state Highway 14 are getting a break from two-hour closures, thanks to better-than-expected progress on a rock-clearing project near Dog Mountain 53 miles east of Vancouver.

The project contractor, Hi-Tech Rockfall Construction Inc., finished rock-scaling work in late June and will complete most of the remaining work on the $3.8 million rockfall mitigation project using single-lane closures. Motorists should expect 20-minute delays.

The project should be finished by Sept. 2, according to the Washington Department of Transportation.
