HONOLULU (AP) — A Washington state company holding a contract to ship Honolulu’s trash to the mainland is facing another problem.
Williams Scotsman Inc. of Maryland has filed a lawsuit in an effort to obtain storage equipment and containers it says it leased to Hawaiian Waste Systems LLC in November. The suit filed Tuesday says the lease rent hasn’t been paid.
The shipments were to have begun in October. But Hawaiian Waste Systems has stored thousands of tons of trash at Campbell Industrial Park while waiting for federal approval, which came in June.
In May, the state Department of Health imposed a $40,400 fine on Hawaiian Waste Systems for the accumulated trash.
