KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. (AP) — A Klamath Falls man will spend five years on probation after pleading no contest to criminally negligent homicide in the death of a drinking buddy.

The Herald and News reports that 52-year-old Donald Farnsworth entered the plea Wednesday in Klamath County Circuit Court.

Authorities say Farnsworth was drinking with Raife Hartman along the Link River last September when they got in an argument over who would go buy more booze. Farnsworth pushed Hartman in the river, then refused to help him get out.

District Attorney Ed Caleb says Farnsworth got credit for six months he already spent in jail awaiting trial.
