HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) — A man who pleaded guilty to the theft of $250,000 in gold nuggets from the Rice Northwest Museum of Rocks and Minerals was sentenced to nearly three years in prison.
Twenty-eight-year-old Jeffrey Ryan Harvey of Portland was working as a janitor at the Hillsboro museum in April when the gold was taken from a safe.
He’s the great-grandson of Richard and Helen Rice who founded the museum in the 1930s and the grandson of Bill and Sharleen Rice who donated most of the gold.
Authorities found the stolen gold at Harvey’s apartment.
