WASHINGTON (AP) — Justin Maxwell has been recalled by the Washington Nationals from Triple-A Syracuse.

Maxwell was in the starting lineup Saturday against San Francisco, leading off and playing center field.

It is the 26-year-old Maxwell’s third stint with the Nationals this season. He is hitting .121 with a home run and three RBIs in 21 games.

Maxwell takes the roster spot of right-hander Luis Atilano, who was optioned to Syracuse after Friday night’s game so he could make a start during the All-Star break.

Nationals manager Jim Riggleman said Saturday that Atilano would pitch the fifth game of the second half after rookie Stephen Strasburg, Livan Hernandez, Craig Stammen and J.D. Martin.
