A Monday night apartment fire at the Cove at Fisher’s Landing caused damage to two units and displaced a family of five, Vancouver Firefighter Jim Flaherty said.

Fire broke out at 7:21 p.m. and firefighters arrived within seven minutes, Flaherty said. The 253-unit complex is at 16506 S.E. 29th St.

The fire was in the A9 upstairs apartment. The father and son were home at the time and evacuated. The father suffered second-degree burns on his hands, Flaherty said.

The Red Cross was helping the family Monday night.

The downstairs apartment sustained smoke and water damage and temporarily displaced a man and his cat, Flaherty said.

A child playing with fire in the upstairs unit caused the blaze, according to Flaherty. Damage was estimated at $55,000 to the building and its contents.

Names were not available.

Twenty-two Vancouver firefighters and one Camas firefighter fought the fire.
