LEIDSCHENDAM, Netherlands (AP) — The international court created to try the killers of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri is hearing demands by a former general to see his secret file to learn why he was held without charge for nearly four years.

Former General Security chief Maj. Gen. Jamil al-Sayyed says his “arbitrary detention” was based on false testimony, and he is asking the court to release his case file to know who made the allegations against him.

Al-Sayyed was released in April 2009 with three other pro-Syrian Lebanese officers suspected in the 2005 truck bomb in Beirut that killed Hariri and 22 others. They were freed because of a lack of evidence.

No other suspects are in custody.

The public hearing Tuesday is the first by the Special Tribunal for Lebanon since the release.
