Seattle nightlife plan: later liquor service

SEATTLE (AP) — Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn’s plan to curb nightlife noise and violence includes a proposal to allow bars to serve alcohol after 2 a.m.

The plan outlined Tuesday would also require bouncers and club security workers to attend Seattle Police Department training classes. And it calls for more late-night bus service, among other suggestions.

State rules require bars to stop serving liquor at 2 a.m., which means thousands of patrons can leave those establishments within a narrow time window, sometimes overwhelming law enforcement.

The state Liquor Control Board would have to approve any change in alcohol service rules. Board spokesman Brian Smith said Tuesday his agency hasn’t heard any specifics from Seattle officials.

City officials say they want to hear feedback on the proposal between now and September.
