A burglar smashed a window and went into the J.C. Penney store at the Westfield Vancouver mall early Wednesday, police said.

Officers were called to the mall shortly after midnight Tuesday and found a shattered window, said Vancouver Police Department spokeswoman Kim Kapp.

Workers from the store’s alarm company called police multiple times to alert them of tripped alarms in different areas, Kapp said.

Some of the jewelry cases inside the store were shattered, but Kapp said no inventory of possibly stolen items was immediately available.

No suspect information was available, but officers were investigating.
