OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Washington state Sen. Craig Pridemore is dropping out of the race for the open 3rd District congressional seat.

Pridemore, a Democrat from Vancouver, announced Tuesday on his Web site that he was ending his campaign and endorsing former state representative Denny Heck. He says the this year’s long legislative session put him at a disadvantage.

Democratic incumbent Brian Baird is retiring.

Heck, who has already raised more than $500,000, is now certain to advance through the Aug. 17 top-two primary. The main two Republicans in the race are state Rep. Jaime Herrera, a Republican from Vancouver, and David Castillo, a former chief of staff to the state House GOP caucus who also worked in the Bush administration.
