SEATTLE (AP) — Princess Cruises says a crew spent an extra two hours sanitizing the Sapphire Princess ship in Seattle on Sunday before passengers boarded for its next Alaska cruise.

Spokeswoman Julie Benson told KING-TV that 96 passengers who returned over the weekend from a seven-day trip sought medical attention for a norovirus, which causes vomiting and diarrhea.

Benson says sick passengers were asked to stay in their rooms, and the crew took other precautions to prevent the illness from spreading.
