THE WOODLANDS, Texas (AP) — Tony Romo is four shots behind leader Casey Clendenon midway through a sectional qualifier for the U.S. Open.

The Dallas Cowboys quarterback shot a 1-under 71 in sweltering heat on Monday, bouncing back from an early triple bogey. Romo is one of 36 players vying for two spots in a 36-hole sectional qualifier at The Club at Carlton Woods, just north of Houston.

Players immediately started their second rounds after thunderstorms in the area caused a 2-hour delay in the morning.

Romo was 2-over after five holes when air horns halted play about 10:30 a.m. local time. Radar showed heavy thunderstorms just east of the course, but the sky was clear by noon and the players resumed their first rounds at 12:30 p.m.
