LONDON (AP) — Andy Murray’s title defense at Queen’s Club has begun with a victory over Spain’s Ivan Navarro.
Murray was given a tough ride early by Navarro before eventually easing to a 7-6 (8), 6-3 win, setting up a third-round match against either Mardy Fish or Santiago Giraldo.
Also, No. 4 Andy Roddick beat Igor Kunitsyn 6-2, 6-1.
Murray, who was given a first-round bye, saved two set points in the tiebreak as Navarro used his serve and volley to good effect Tuesday.
Having failed to break his opponent in the opening set, the third-seeded Murray did so early in the second and comfortably closed out the match.
