CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) — The World Cup will be played in South Africa, but it will played on grass from Oregon seed.

A Corvallis-based business, Seed Research of Oregon, sent four varieties to South Africa for the event. The seed was planted early enough so the fields would have about six months of growth.

The company’s South African distributor, Agricol, expects the World Cup to boost its business by at least 20 percent. Rugby is popular in South Africa and, like soccer, the playing fields need good grass.
