PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Fire has damaged two homes and a garage in north Portland but firefighters managed to save a dog found in the basement of one of the houses.

Fire Lt. Allen Oswalt says all other occupants made it out safely.

Fire crews arriving Wednesday found all three buildings on fire and had to deal with live power lines down on the ground as well.

Firefighters used a pet resuscitation mask to revive the dog.

Oswalt says the fire was caused by hot ashes in a plastic bucket placed too close to one of the buildings.

Damage was estimated at $235,000.
