SAINT-OMER, France (AP) — Colm Moriarty of Ireland and Martin Wiegele of Austria each shot a 5-under 66 to share a two-shot lead after the opening round of the Saint-Omer Open.
Moriarty was among the first golfers to tee off Thursday morning and held the clubhouse lead until Wiegele caught up to him in the afternoon. The Austrian bogeyed his second hole but recovered with six birdies over a nine-hole span.
Joakim Backstrom of Sweden, the 2005 champion, carded a bogey-free 68 to share third place with Andrew Marshall of England, Wade Ormsby of Australia and Frenchmen Charles-Edouard Russo and Michael Lorenzo-Vera.
