EVERETT, Wash. (AP) — A 40-year-old Washington man has been sentenced to 3712 years in prison after his conviction for first-degree murder in the gruesome slaying of his ex-girlfriend.

Eric Christensen of Gold Bar was sentenced Friday in the Jan. 2 death of 35-year-old Sherry Harlan of Lynnwood. Evidence showed the man fatally stabbed Harlan at her apartment, dismembered her body and scattered most of her remains in wooded areas of east Snohomish County.

Christensen told detectives he had been angry with Harlan after she broke what he called a “blood oath” promise to stop seeing another man.

Snohomish County Superior Court Judge Thomas Wynne told Christensen he had committed “a barbaric act.”
