NC-based soldier, Marine killed in Afghanistan

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Officials say a soldier and a Marine based in North Carolina have been killed in Afghanistan.

The Department of Defense announced on Thursday that 22-year-old Pfc. Anthony T. Justesen of Wilsonville, Ore., died June 23 in Farah province after insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device.

Justesen was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg.

Officials also reported that 23-year-old Cpl. Joshua R. Dumaw of Spokane Valley, Wash., died June 22 in Nimruz province.

Dumaw was assigned to Second Marine Expeditionary Force, based at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point.
