SEATTLE (AP) — After pulling back on a squeeze bunt that cost Seattle a victory late Friday night, Eric Byrnes tore out of the Mariners clubhouse on his 8-speed beach cruiser bike before it opened to the media.

Mariners manager Don Wakamatsu joked Saturday morning that Byrnes used all eight speeds leaving the stadium.

Byrnes still wasn’t talking about his botched squeeze attempt Saturday morning. But his failure in the 11th inning of Friday’s 2-0 loss in 12 innings to Texas highlighted Seattle’s struggles with situational hitting.

Wakamatsu says his team has to be close to perfect offensively. And while Byrnes’ mistake was the most glaring, there were plenty of other hitting problems that ruined Cliff Lee’s first Seattle start.
