A retired postal clerk and Army veteran, Mike Ehredt, is expected to run through Battle Ground today between 2 and 4 p.m., part of his across-the-country trek to honor fallen veterans.

Ehredt left Astoria Saturday to begin the 4,514-mile journey, called Project America Run.

Along the way, he’s planning to spend time with families of soldiers killed in Iraq. He’ll place a yellow flag in memory of a fallen soldier every mile, each one bearing a mini-biography including the veteran’s name, rank, service branch, age and hometown.

He’s placing one flag for each soldier, in reverse chronological order by the date of their death, until the last flag is set in Rockland, Maine.

Ehredt is expected to arrive this afternoon at the intersection of Northeast 10th Avenue and 219th Street. He’ll take State Highway 502 into downtown.
