5th-seeded Garcia-Lopez wins at Estoril

OEIRAS, Portugal (AP) — Fifth-seeded Guillermo Garcia-Lopez advanced to the third round of the Estoril Open with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Leonardo Tavares of Portugal.

Albert Martin of Spain and Portuguese players Rui Machado and Frederico Gil also secured second-round victories.

Top-seeded Roger Federer plays his third-round match Friday.

In the women’s event, second-seeded Sorana Cirstea reached the semifinals by eliminating Arantxa Rus 6-4, 6-1 while seventh-seeded Peng Shuai knocked out fourth-seeded Anabel Medina Garrigues 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.

Cirstea will play Arantxa Parra Santonja of Spain, who beat Jarmila Groth of Australia, 6-7 (6), 7-5, 7-5. Peng will face Anastasija Sevastova of Latvia, who ousted Anastasia Rodionova of Australia 7-6 (6), 6-2.
