SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — Fire officials say an apartment blaze that injured seven people and displaced 26 was intentionally set.
Firefighters were called to the two-story HiFumi En Apartments around 1:30 a.m. Saturday with reports of smoke. The apartment is a building for disabled people and senior citizens.
Spokane Fire Assistant Chief Brian Schaeffer tells the Spokesman-Review that most of the residents had to be carried out. He says the fire was set in an area that was a primary exit.
Schaeffer said Sunday one person was still in critical condition. He did not know the status of the others who suffered minor to serious injuries.
