NYON, Switzerland (AP) — Sweden, Denmark and Finland have been rewarded for their teams’ good behavior with extra places in next season’s Europa League.
UEFA said Monday that the three countries topped the seasonlong Fair Play rankings.
Entries into the Europa League first qualifying round will be allocated to the highest-ranked team in each country’s domestic fair play standings that has not already qualified for the Champions League or Europa League.
The winning teams have not yet been announced.
UEFA’s rankings are compiled from points awarded by its appointed delegates at club and national team matches.
Teams are graded on their discipline, respect for opponents and referees, positive play and behavior by fans and team officials.
