ST. LOUIS (AP) — Astros reliever Tim Byrdak will fly to Houston on Wednesday to have his back examined for a possible disk problem.

The left-hander was placed on the 15-day disabled list May 4 and the team had been treating him for a high hamstring injury. Byrdak said he has been experiencing radiating pain down the sciatic nerve and will be examined by Dr. Michael McCann.

Byrdak is 1-0 with a 5.23 ERA in 13 games. Last year, he led the team with 76 relief appearances, going 1-2 with a 3.32 ERA while holding batters to a .178 average.
