Elon holds on for 30-25 win over Furman

ELON, N.C. (AP) — A.J. Harris ran for a 7-yard touchdown with 5:21 left and Blake Thompson had an interception to seal it in Elon’s 30-25 win over Furman on Saturday.

The Phoenix (5-5, 4-3 Southern Conference) trailed 25-24 with 8:57 left in the game after Tersoo Uhaa’s 4-yard run for the Paladins (5-5, 3-4). Elon then marched 70 yards on eight plays for the go-ahead score.

On its ensuing possession, Furman was held to a three-and-out before Elon took 4:10 off the clock on six plays. However, Elon’s punt was blocked and recovered by Furman’s Mike Brown on Elon’s 36.

On Furman’s next play with 10 seconds left, Cody Worley’s pass was intercepted by Thompson in the end zone.

Harris finished with 103 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries and Scott Riddle added 311 yards on 31-for-46 passing for the Phoenix.

Worley was 7-for-17 with 116 yards and a touchdown for Furman.
