CLEVELAND (AP) — Justin Greene made one of two free-throw attempts with 1 second left to give Kent State a 73-72 victory over Iona on Friday night in both teams’ season opener.

With less than a minute remaining in the game and the score tied at 72-72, Greene blocked Alejo Rodriguez’ shot attempt and grabbed the rebound.

Following a timeout by Kent State with 20 seconds left, Greene drove into the lane to draw contact for a foul as he went to the free-throw line and knocked down the game-winning point.

The Golden Flashes trailed 72-69 with less than a minute to go before Carlton Guyton nailed a three-pointer to tie the score with 53 seconds on the clock.

Greene tied a career-high with 26 points on 11 of 15 shooting and added 14 rebounds for his seventh career double-double.

Mike Glover led the Gaels in scoring with 16 as Iona had five different players in double figures.
