American beats Albany (NY) 57-44 for 2nd win

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Vlad Moldoveanu scored 11 points and Stephen Lumpkins and Troy Brewer added 10 each as American University defeated Albany (N.Y.) 57-44 Monday night.

Moldoveanu, a 6-foot-9 senior from Romania, hit a 3-pointer to start the Eagles (2-0) on a 14-4 run that gave them a 26-12 lead with 5:44 remaining in the first half.

After the Great Danes (0-2) pulled to within 37-31 with 16:01 left in the second half on a jumper by Tim Ambrose, American scored the next eight points, three on baskets by Lumpkins, to lead 45-31 at the 12:26 mark.

Ambrose scored 13 points off the bench to lead Albany, which shot just 31.5 percent (17 of 54) from the field. He also had seven rebounds and five assists for the Great Danes.

Lumpkins grabbed eight rebounds and Moldoveanu seven for American.
