PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Vincent Council scored 18 points and Marshon Brooks and Bilal Dixon each contributed double-doubles as Providence eked out a 58-55 victory against Yale Monday night.

Brooks had 15 points and 12 rebounds. Dixon had 10 points and 14 rebounds.

Austin Morgan’s 16 points led Yale, and Porter Braswell added 13.

Morgan’s sharpshooting sparked a 22-6 run in the second half, giving Yale (0-2) a 49-43 lead. Providence (2-0) responded with an 8-0 charge to grab a 51-49 lead with 4 minutes left, but a thunderous, one-handed dunk from Yale’s Reggie Willhite tied the score.

Down by one with 30 seconds left, Braswell missed a 3-pointer, which Brooks snagged for his 12th rebound.

Morgan swiped at Brooks to foul out, and Brooks sank two free throws to make the score 58-55. Yale had one final possession, but Greg Mangano’s missed 3-pointer as time expired cemented the victory.
