PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Gas prices have topped an average of $3 a gallon in Oregon as the Thanksgiving holiday approaches.

Oregon’s statewide average at the pump is the highest it’s been since August while the national average is the highest it’s been since May.

So far this year, the national average has peaked at around $2.91 and the highest point for Oregon’s average was about $3.04.

The Oregon-Idaho chapter of AAA says the national average for a gallon of regular gained four cents this week to $2.89.

Even though gas prices are about 25 cents higher than a year ago, AAA projects the number of Americans traveling for the holiday will increase 11.4 percent from last year.
