Shannon leads St. Francis (Pa.) past Colgate 69-66

LORETTO, Pa. (AP) — Umar Shannon scored 23 points, including the game’s final seven, to lead St. Francis (Pa.) past Colgate 69-66 on Monday night.

The Red Flash (1-1) trailed 65-58 with 2:56 left, before going on a 6-1 run sparked by four points from Shannon. Shannon’s 3 put St. Francis ahead 67-66 with 37 seconds left for its first lead since 41-40 with 16:33 to play.

Colgate’s Yaw Gyawu then missed a jumper with 25 seconds to go, and four seconds later the Raiders (0-2) fouled Shannon, who made both free throws.

Shannon made 8 of 10 free throws in the game as St. Francis shot 75 percent from the line (18 of 24), compared to 66.7 percent (14 of 21) by Colgate.

Will Felder had 16 points, nine rebounds and three blocks for the Red Flash, and Mislav Jukic added 12 points.

Mike Venezia led the way for the Raiders with 19 points, and Gyawu added 18.
