TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — Defending national champion Alabama versus fledgling FCS team Georgia State.
It’s not exactly a matchup for the ages, but these two teams on opposite ends of the college football spectrum will meet Thursday night.
The most intriguing storyline will be the return of former Crimson Tide coach Bill Curry, now leading the first-year Georgia State program.
The game should be a warmup for No. 10 Alabama before the Iron Bowl against No. 2 Auburn.
After all, the Tide had six first-team AP All-Americans last season. That matches the win total in Georgia State’s brief history.
It’s the first time Alabama has played on Thursday night since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks forced a rescheduling of the Southern Miss game in 2001.
