PINEVILLE, La. (AP) — Jarrod Jackson scored 34 points and pulled down nine rebounds to lead Louisiana College past New Orleans 81-78 on Thursday night.
The Wildcats (1-0) trailed 42-36 at halftime, but their hot shooting allowed them to pull ahead and earn their first victory of the season.
Lousiana College shot 26 for 51 (51 percent), including 10 for 19 (52.6 percent) from 3-point range. JeLani Mitchell added 15 points for the Wildcats.
Zach Kinsley came off the bench to score 21 points for the Privateers (1-1), who shot 29 for 66 (43.9 percent) from the floor. Antonio Wertz added 13 points and Brandon Knight scored 10.
Despite being outrebounded 34-29 and turning the ball over 22 times compared to 13, the Wildcats, a Division II school, were able to pull off the upset over New Orleans — a team currently transitioning from Division I to Division III.
