Canisius rolls past Eastern Michigan 71-51

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Tomas Vazquez-Simmons and Robert Goldsberry scored 14 points each to lead Canisius to a 71-51 victory over Eastern Michigan on Saturday.

Vazquez-Simmons also had nine rebounds and Goldsberry set his career high in scoring, going 8 of 10 from the free throw line, as the Golden Griffins (2-1) improved to 2-0 at home for the first time since 1999-2000.

Canisius pulled away in the second half, leading by 26 points with 2:24 left in the game.

The Golden Griffins scored 29 points off Eastern Michigan’s 21 turnovers and outrebounded the Eagles 44-34.

Eastern Michigan (1-2), which was led by Brandon Bowdry’s 13 points, shot 33.3 percent from the field (17 of 51) and 52.2 percent from the free throw line (12 of 23).

Reggie Groves finished with 11 points for Canisius.

Darrell Lampley added 10 points for Eastern Michigan.
