TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — Andrew Goudelock scored 26 points and Jeremy Simmons scored 11 of his 17 in the second half as College of Charleston defeated Illinois-Chicago 78-66 on Saturday in the 2K Sports Classic benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer.
Goudelock, a senior guard, scored 17 of his points in the first half, when the Cougars (3-2) led by as many as 18 points before taking a 40-29 halftime lead.
Robo Kreps scored 17 of his 26 points for the Flames (2-2) in the second half, when they got within two points, 55-53, with 10:29 remaining. It was 64-60 with 7:51 left before Charleston scored the next six points, four coming on layups by Willis Hall.
Illinois-Chicago didn’t get to attempt a single free throw in the first half but got 19 tries in the second, making 13, to help it stay close.
Paul Carter scored 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Flames.
