SANDPOINT, Idaho (AP) — A Washington state motorist has been sentenced to a year in prison following a crash that killed a cyclist and injured a runner competing in a relay race in northern Idaho last summer.

Bowdeen S. Kahuhu of Newport, Wash., was sentenced Wednesday in 1st District Court for vehicular manslaughter.

The Bonner County Daily Bee reports that Kahuhu was taken into custody immediately to begin serving her sentence.

Idaho State Police say Kahuhu hit a 17-year-old Spokane-to-Sandpoint relay runner and her 46-year-old chaperone, Patricia Ann Lambie of Greenacres, Wash.

The teen survived the early morning crash on Aug. 14, but Lambie was killed.

Kahuhu says she fell asleep.
