Charleston Southern overwhelms Southern U 89-54

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. (AP) — Kelvin Martin and Kenny Mitchell each scored 15 points to lead Charleston Southern to an 89-54 victory over Southern University on Saturday in the Chicago Invitational Challenge.

Jamarco Warren added 14 points and Sheldon Strickland had 12 for the Buccaneers (3-4), who raced out to a 53-22 halftime lead and coasted from there.

Julius Ingram led the Jaguars (1-7) with 14 points and Brandon White finished with 12.

Martin collected nine rebounds and Mitchell had seven to help Charleston Southern outrebound Southern University 37-25.

The Buccaneers shot 58.1 percent in the first half and finished at 54 percent (34 of 63) overall.

The Jaguars shot 42.6 percent but turned the ball over 21 times, which led to 28 points by Charleston Southern.
