Vermont pulls away from NJIT 69-50

BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) — Evan Fjeld scored 25 points and Vermont defeated New Jersey Institute of Technology 69-50 on Saturday.

Fjeld was 10 for 15 from the field and made all five free throw attempts to lead a strong shooting effort by the Catamounts, who shot 43.9 percent (25 of 57) from the field and 84.6 percent (11 of 13) from the foul line. Matt Glass added 15 points and Brian Voelkel had 12 rebounds for the Catamounts (4-1), who have won three in a row.

Vermont led by 11 points at halftime and built its largest lead of the game at 65-42 with 3:38 to play. The Catamounts are 4-0 all-time against the Highlanders.

Isaiah Wilkerson scored 14 points, and Jheryl Wilson and Lamar Kearse each had 10 for NJIT (1-3), which has lost two games in a row and was held to its lowest point total of the season.
