Arkansas State eases past Southeast Missouri 56-50

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) — Martavius Adams had game highs of 18 points and 10 rebounds and Arkansas State scored the last seven points of the game to defeat Southeast Missouri 56-50 on Saturday night.

Trey Finn added 11 points for the Red Wolves (1-5), who snapped a season-opening five-game losing streak.

Nick Niemczyk led the Bears (0-6) with 12 points, and Leon Powell chipped in 10.

Marcus Brister sank a free throw to give Southeast Missouri a 50-49 lead. But Adams hit a jumper and three free throws and Rashad Allison added two free throws as the Bears went scoreless over the final 2:17.

Arkansas State led by 11 points with 14:53 to go before Southeast Missouri ran off 12 unanswered points for a 36-35 advantage with 11:28 left. Neither team led by more than three the rest of the way until the Red Wolves’ closing rush.
