MOBILE, Ala. (AP) — Buoyed by a hot-shooting first half, LSU defeated South Alabama 80-65 on Sunday in the Coors Classic.
The Tigers (4-2) made six of their first seven shots, was 16 of 24 from the floor and 10 of 13 from 3-point range in the first half, building a comfortable 55-30 halftime lead. In the first half South Alabama made just 7 of 25 field goals.
The victory is the first on an opponent’s home floor for the Tigers since defeating Kentucky on Feb. 28, 2009, a win that gave them the 2009 SEC championship.
LSU had three players score in double figures, led by Andre Stringer with 21. Ralston Turner scored 17 and Aaron Dotson added 15. The Tigers shot 53.2 percent from the floor (25 for 47), including 70.6 percent from 3-point range (12 of 17).
The Jags were led by Martino Brock’s 15 points, with P.J. Reyes adding 12. The Jags shot 33.3 percent from the floor (18 of 54).
