MIR ALI, Pakistan (AP) — Local officials say a suspected U.S. missile destroyed a vehicle in Pakistan’s militant-controlled region near the Afghan border. It was unclear if anyone died.

Sunday’s unmanned drone strike was the 13th this month targeting Taliban and al-Qaida-linked militants in lawless North Waziristan.

Two Pakistani intelligence officials say the American aircraft fired two missiles and one hit a vehicle near Hassan Khel. The officials say no bodies have been found. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak on the record.

The U.S. has ramped up its unacknowledged search-and-destroy program, hoping to eliminate militant leaders who run terrorist training camps and plot attacks on U.S. and NATO troops across the border.
