Etched wins Monmouth Cup

OCEANPORT, N.J. (AP) — Etched held off the favored Musket Man by a neck Saturday in the $300,000 Monmouth Cup at Monmouth Park.

Trained by Kiaran McLaughlin and ridden by Eddie Castro, the 5-year-old horse covered 1 1-8 miles over a fast track in 1:50 1-5 and paid $16.20, $4.80 and $4.20. Etched also won the Grade 2 race last year, when it was known as the Meadowlands Cup.

Musket Man paid $2.40 and $2.10, while early pacesetter Chirac returned $4.20.

Etched has seven victories in nine starts with earnings of $587,586.
