THIBODAUX, La. (AP) — Led by junior linebacker Will Henry, Sam Houston State set a school record with 12 sacks in a 26-7 victory over Nicholls State on Saturday.

Henry’s four sacks tied Michael Bankston’s single-game school record.

The Bearkats (3-2, 1-0 Southland Conference) limited the Colonels (1-4, 0-1) to 97 yards and forced three turnovers, including two interceptions by Kenneth Jenkins.

Robert Shaw blocked a Nicholls State punt and fell on it in the end zone to give Sam Houston State a 10-7 lead 2:17 before halftime. He also recovered a muffed punt in the first quarter that set up a field goal.

Bottled up for three quarters, the Bearkats offense got on track in the fourth. Quarterback Brian Bell scored on a 7-yard run and Tim Flanders added a 4-yard scoring run with 5:40 remaining.

Flanders’ 105 yards on 22 carries was his fourth consecutive 100-yard rushing game.
