PARIS (AP) — Marseille says it is planning legal action against Manchester City midfielder Nigel De Jong over the tackle that broke Newcastle winger Hatem Ben Arfa’s leg in two places.

Ben Arfa is on a season’s loan to Newcastle from Marseille, and the French club’s president, Jean-Claude Dassier, said Sunday that “Marseille’s lawyers are already working and we will file charges against (De Jong).”

Dassier, speaking on French television, did not specify what legal action Marseille was planning, adding only that “you must try and rid the pitches of Europe of this type of individual.”

De Jong has been heavily criticized for the tackle, with Netherlands coach Bert van Marwijk dropping him from two European Championship qualifiers.
