BEREA, Ohio (AP) — The Cleveland Browns will re-sign Brett Ratliff off New England’s practice squad following injuries to quarterbacks Jake Delhomme and Seneca Wallace.
Agent Joe Palumbo confirmed in an email to The Associated Press that the Browns intend to sign Ratliff, who was the club’s No. 3 quarterback for 14 games last season and the backup for two. He was one of Cleveland’s final cuts this summer. Ratliff had been on New England’s practice squad.
ESPN.com first reported on Ratfliff’s return to Cleveland.
Coach Eric Mangini said Delhomme and Wallace are both “hurting” and it’s possible rookie Colt McCoy could make his first NFL start against Pittsburgh on Sunday.
Delhomme, who missed Cleveland’s previous three games with a high ankle sprain, had to play Sunday after Wallace injured his ankle when he was sacked by John Abraham in the first half of the Browns’ 20-10 loss to the Atlanta Falcons.
Mangini would not give any specifics on the injuries to either Delhomme or Wallace.
