MUKILTEO, Wash. (AP) — Authorities say arson is the cause of a fire that destroyed a Mormon church building in Mukilteo, Wash.

The two-alarm blaze early Saturday morning left the worshippers looking for a new home.

The Herald of Everett reports that fire and police determined that the fire was started outside near the back entry of the church building.

Firefighters responded within minutes of the 3 a.m. report but the fire had spread, and with the roof collapsing, they kept the fire in check.

Assistant Fire Chief Brian McMahan says authorities have collected evidence of arson and police are investigating.

Jeff Lee, president of the Lynnwood Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, says the fire affected two wards. He says they will rebuild.
