BEND, Ore. (AP) — An Oregon man who died after a beating at his home in Bend has been identified as police continued their search for an aluminum baseball bat they believe was used as a weapon.

Police said Tuesday that preliminary autopsy results showed 36-year-old Matthew Fitzhenry died of blunt force trauma to the head and brain.

KTVZ-TV reported that Deschutes County sheriff’s search and rescue volunteers joined Bend police Tuesday in the second day of exhaustive searches for the weapon in the downtown area, as well as the Deschutes River.

Police said a suspect was in custody on an unrelated charge but the name was withheld while the investigation continues.
